It is known that Phetchaburi has its own unique geographical landscape and nature, the peole are depended on their surrounding natural resources making their own living from what they have. Therefore, growing rice is the main activity of the people. With plenty of palm trees, they produce sugar from the trees. They also grown fruits and vegetable and along the shoreline they live on fish. People of Phetchaburi have invented and developed their own way of life that has become well-known all around the country including agricultural products,art, folk play, traditions, and festivals. The must famous image of all from Phetchaburi is its art. This can be found at temples in downtown area.

Phetchaburi Image of Religion
Buddism has rooted deep in Phetchaburi establishing it "the land of monks." Differnt ritual practices and religious ceremonies are amazing. This can tell how much the people are tied up with their religion.
Not only did the people built many temples in Phetchaburi, they also created their gorgieous art works at the temples, especially stucco art.

Cart and Oxen
Because they are rice farmers, ox-carts are still used as their vehicles in differnt ceremonies. They use cattle for farm work as well as for entertainment and games; ox-cart racing and circle bull racing. This shows how much their life is tied up with being a rice farmer. Today, some families still use ox-carts to carry a child to a temple to do a have-off ceremony. They decorate the oxen with fancy cloth.

Circle Bull Race
"Men of Muang Phet" must know and play the circle bull race called in Thai "Wua Lan." The game is in their blood showing off how brave they are and how stronge they are. This is a part of their life. The way they play the race and what attitudes they have are interesting to learn, and also the game to watch and enjoy.

Performing Art of Classical Folk Drama
A Thai classical folk drama was originated in Phetchaburi is called "Lakorn Chartree." The performance pattern is a combination of mask drama, traditional dance, and singing drama (Thai opera). Besides playing for entertainment in a cerebration or fair, it is played for paying homage to the spirits that make them happy. It can be seen in Phetchaburi today at Wat Mahathatu Worawiharn in downtown Phetchaburi.

Fisherman
Along the eastern coast of Phetchaburi Province the people's lifestyle is a diiferent thing one can see. Basically fisherman's way of life dominates the scence driving their small motor fishing-boats up and down the bay. The fishing activity makes beach backgorund specatacular. Their daily catch feeds fresh seafood to tourists. Some produce dried seafoods sold in shops by road-side creating more choices of souvenirs for visitors to bring back home.

Salt Farm
Salt farming is rare but can be seen in Banlaem, Phetchaburi. It is a big business that can be done only in the summer time. It is also a different look that we have never seen before.
Not only is the white salt-farm paddy itself specataular, but it also makes a wide-range of peaceful feeding ground for shore-birds, which becomes a famous site for bird watch, such as Laem Pakbia, Bang Khunsai, and Paktalae.

Annually people of Phetchaburi celebrate thier pride of legacy left by their former kings and the precedents. They pay the reverence to the Kings who used to resided and the memorial palaces. They are united in different occasions. They play and have fun with family and friends. They create art and crafts and other remarkable artifacts, and these become attractions for Thais and other people around the world. |
