Volunteer and Travel

General Information

Education and volunteering in Phetchaburi is a choice for visitors who like to appreciate the cultureover aperiod of time. Basically teaching foreign languages such as English, Japanese, Chinese, etc. in schools is popular.

Not only teaching a language temporarily but also in the long-term working as a contract teacher who can earn some money and have weekends and holidays to spend traveling around Thailand.

University student exchange programs, 1-3 month periods, is another option to choose from. The Phetchaburi Rajabhat University located in Maung District of Phetchaburi welcomes all overseas students under supervision of their institutes to come and experience a different adventure in education and community development.

Exchanging and learning the culture of different countries is fun. Arrangement of an exchange program should be done officially because travelers need a proper visa and accommodation. Mostly it requires a signed agreement.

Field Experienc in Teaching

An example of an 3-month exchange program is teaching English at Phetchaburi Rajabhat University. The students in education from Fontys University of Applied Sciences from the Netherland volunteer to teach young children in primary schools around Phetchaburi province four days a week and spend one day to teach English and exchange culture at the university.

The students have fun learning and exchanging what they know. They see Thai performances and attend some reception parties. In there free time, especially weekends and holidays, the volunteers travel around the province and country.

Long-term Contract Teacher

Many foreigners who have a bachelor degree and teaching certificate or certified teaching expereince (required by the Thai Ministry of Education an employment law) choose to work under contract for at least one year to stay and experience Thailand in Phetchaburi. Basically they teach English in schools or univeristy. They will be granted a working visa and working permit.

When they have plenty of time staying in Thailand, they travel around and in nearby countries to Thailand. They surely have a lot of fun and good expereinces, even cultural shocks are worth something for their life in the future.

English camp is an activity that many volunteers like to join in. However, is it not regularily scheduled. Seeking the programs from the Internet will help the prospecting volunteers.

In and around Phetchaburi, schools like to have an English camp for their students in the second semester (September - January) and a 3-day/2-night camp is common. Many camps are run at a tourist town by a beach, such as Cha-am and Hua-hin, and they like to include fun activities like being a tourist.

Short-term Volunteer

David from England volunteered to teach and exchange culture at Phetchaburi Rajabhat UNiversity. His host family took him to the Thai Song Dam's home-coming at Nongprong Village on Songkran Festival.

He expereinced the ethinic dance, food, and attitudes of the people. This picture is a testimony that he was amazed by the local girls who welcome him with a sincere smile.

Contact directly to the English Division, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Phetchaburi Raajabhat Univeristy when anyone would like to volunteer for a program in the community, school, or univeristy. The university will assist them to meet their volunteering objectives.

Phetchaburi Rajabhat University host a big number of Chines student from China who come to study Thai language for their one-year certificate or 2-year plus (2+2) bachelor degree inThai. The student choose Phetchaburi because of its location where they can travel on weekends and holidays. They can enjoy beaches, nature, culture and other activies.
